Yea, what I did with a 98 about 4 years ago is pulled the line and never replaced it. That last pic is the line and filter. Hasn't had a problem since.

Still vents properly. After all, it's an atmospheric vent, no odor.

Also, it was a bad design that was discontinued in the later models.
