Ok, I'm out of ideas :[

My 04 f150 5.4L

It's leaking from the right front of the engine.

I check the filter..good
Checked for 2 orings on filter housing...only 1 oring good.

I had the Oil filter adapter gasket replaced..the one that bolts onto the block. They said that that where the leak looked like it was coming from.

I got it home this evening and it's still leaking..not as bad but still leaking.

What else could this be. I know it's not a vaulve cover.

What is something in that area above the oil filter but between the head that could leek.

I was thinking that maybe it was escess oil from the changing of the gasket job but it's a little more that..or at least I think.

Any ideas. btw no oil in coolant or anything like that.

If yours was leaking like mine was, then you've probably got plenty left all over that area to drip down even after fixing it. I'd give it a while before you start going nuts trying to hunt it down again.

If you haven't already then you might try cleaning it off real well when you get a chance. That will help either way. Get some of the foaming engine cleaner stuff and/or the citrus cleaner and get all of the mess off so you can see better whether/where it might be coming from. If you still can't tell then you might try some UV dye. Napa used to sell a small bottle for not too much. You'd also need a light (obviously).

On the older trucks the oil pressure sender was in that same area. Don't recall now where that is on the 2004+.

I didn't mean to I thought I was on f-150 forums because Im on here with my phone my bad.

I've drive the truck 2 days and it's still dripping a little less but still dripping. Whats weird is it seems like it only does it after the engine shuts off.

I'm gonna give a few more days and hit it with some cleaner tommorow.

Is there anything in that area that could be leaking?

Just clean and pin-point, -simple. Then take a picture of where she's leaking. Post it.

An FYI, in case your unaware - Over filling these engines with oil is really bad for them. More than most know. It'll tear them up, wear them right down.

Yeah I know over filling them is really bad.

I just went outside and hit every area I could with brake cleaner I check it again in the morning when I drive to work.

it was covered in oil so maybe the wind from driving was just making on the rest of it sip down.

I thought that maybe it could have been a blown head gasket but truck runs fine doens't skip a beat no oil in coolant or anything like that.

I bought this truck for a used lot last friday. They put a new oil adapter gasket on for me at a local shop. They mechanic said that that appeared to be where the oil is coming from so i guess I'll wait in see...Like I said it was covered on the bottom before and had obviously been doing it for a long long time.

Yea when you leak oil down there, it can paint the under carriage because of the pressure, specially an oil pan gasket leak. those can spray her down from bumper to bumper underneath. The cleaner you get it, the better, it sounds like it may be difficult to pinpoint. Keep an eye on your pressure gauge. Cold and Operating temp should be the same on that gauge. It's nothing special, -just an idiot gauge more less, but it's something all the same.

Figure out what it is, YOU have to lol.

Yeah since spraying it down with brake cleaner and only a little at that it seems like the leak has definatly slowed down. This morning there was only about half on the ground as normally there is.

I guess maybe that much oil from over time just may take a long time to drip off and get clean...I hope

I would get under there with some spray degreaser and hose it down to get it completely clean.

I cleaned it with degreaser again and drove it and it's still leaking. above the oil filter adapter is covered in oil and I ran out of cleaner. it looks like right behind the power steering pump. Is there any line up there that could be leaking or anything?

the oil also seems to be cold after it drips. Wouldnt a few fresh drops be warm?

If this is a head gasket what could be the signs.

There is no oil in coolant.
no coolant in exhaust
no coolant in oil
truck runs great no shuttering or anything.

if this is possible a head gasket leaking oil on the right front how big of a rush should I be in to fix it.

The craziest thing like I said seems like it drips more right after you shut the engine off and doens't hardly leak at all when it's running.

Turns out it was the timing cover gasket.
