How do I remove the A/C pump on an 01 5.4??

I am almost ready to yank the engine out of my truck. I have to remove the AC pump and PS pump. I just want to doublecheck how I am supposed to remove the ac pump.. ? I always get nervous messing with ac stuff..

To do it RIGHT, you should have a pro evacuate the system and recycle the refrigerant before disconnecting any lines. Then, have the same pro recharge it when you get it back together.

you dont have to disconnect the AC from is lines just unbolt it and set it off to the side.
That will save you from having to recharge it. Ive accidentally vented it into the atmosphere and recharged it myself for a fraction what a shop would charge and its not rocket science. so if you have to accidentally remove it you can fill it up yourself.

Yeah i would rather not have to deal with recharging it. So How to i actually unbolt the ac unit? It looks as if I have to remove the pulley first, how do I get it off?

If you only partially vent it, no problem topping off the charge yourself. However, THE MINUTE you open a line, you get moist air into the system and it MUST be evacuated with a vacuum pump and recharged.

Haha thanks, well I know I need to unbolt it, but how do I get the bolts out? they are behind the pulley and I need to know how to get the pulley off? I removed the front little cover of the pulley and there is a wierd star like nut holding it on.. ? And yes, I am sorry I know this is porbably REALLY simple, I think I have been breathing too many fumes today.. :o My wife just came in and was like you need to open the garage door.. haha

Yea, no need to remove the pulley, just the mounting bolts. Think there is 2 if I remember right. Helps to have the plastic fender guards off so you can reach things from the side. Those fumes will make you all funky.
