Molecule,
Tina knows more about the changes for 2000 than I do. She mentioned a new island blue color and an available overhead console. I think everything else will remain the same.

Well fast46triton you beat me to it:
molecule: Yes my beast gets what I think is very good milage and yes it did get better when I added the Superchip!! The flowmaster and K&N air filter help the beast run better but the chip really added the hp/torque. It just happened to be an added bonus that my gas milage improved, but I'll take it. Also I haven't had the gears changed to compensate for the bigger tires, so my gas milage is really a little bit better
What ever you do, don't rule out the Superchip. I can't imagine driving w/out it now! Are you leaning toward the 5speed or auto? I've the 5sp and that also causes me to get better milage. But I had to order it. You never find these babys on the sales lot!

GO WITH THE 4.6 / 5SPD. JUST PICKED MINE UP IN MAY HERE IN GERMANY, AND AM GETTING 16.5 MPG ON THE AUTOBAHN. ON A TRIP BACK FROM SLOVAKIA THRU AUSTRIA WAS ABLE TO GET 19.1 AND THAT WAS CARRING A SMALL HOT AIR BALLOON IN THE BED. I HAVE THE SUPERCAB OFFROAD 4X4 WITH THE 3.55LS IN FOREST GREEN.THE FACTORY FORGOT MY TONEAU COVER ALL OTHER PARTS WERE THERE SO NOW THAT I HAVE IT INSTALLED AM HOPEING FOR A BIT BETTER
When choosing between the 4.6 and 5.4, I think you have to ask yourself two questions.
1) Do I prefer maximum performance?
-or-
2) Do I prefer maximum gas mileage?
If you choose 1, get the 5.4. If you choose 2, get the 4.6. Either way, you are getting a solid truck engine, that will perform well for years when properly maintained.
I opted for the 4.6, and have no regrets. My truck is a 99 S/C with auto, 3.55ls. Love the truck, and I have no complaints about get-up-and-go. The 4.6 is a punchy little engine. And just in case you're curious, I'm getting about 16.5 mixed driving. Not bad for a 2-and-a-half ton chunk of metal.
Adios!

Mr.Wizard - I have a '97 SC with the 4.6 rated at only 215HP and I'm very happy with it. I used to drag race so having power and performance is in my blood but I applied my 90% rule when I picked this motor. 90% of the time I drive the truck, I don't need to do 0-60 in the least amount of time. Therefore, the smaller V-8 was a better choice for me. 90% of the time, I just want to get from point A to point B. I installed a Flowmaster muffler and I get 17.5 MPG consistantly compared to the 14-15 my buddy gets with his '97 5.4 which is rated at only 15 hp higher. I don't tow anything. For the 10% of the time I might wish I had the extra HP. I'll take the better gas mileage instead.
