2010 block heater

2010 block heater

I will be working in the northern part of North Dakota this winter. The locals say it gets -20 or so. Were can i get and how do i install a block heater on my 2010 f150 supercrew lariat.

You can buy a factory type unit, it replaces a freeze plug. Or, you can buy a circulating tank heater, it taps into your radiator/heater hoses.

Installation wise the circulating heaters that you splice into your heater hose work just as well if not better than a block heater and they are easier to install.

Block heaters come stock from the dealer here so that is what all my current vehicles have. The downside with block heaters is the seals eventually fail and leak. If left unattended it will blow right out of the block. If you keep your truck long enough (5-10 years) expect to do this job again.

In my opinion, circulating heaters work a lot better than freeze plug heaters.
