Gotts Mod Question

I've been searching the net and this forum for an solid answer to this question but can't find one.

I have an 06 F150 5.4 v8. Why can't I just bolt on a K&N CAI, why is the gotts mod preferred and alway suggested when I talk to people or read things on the forum. What does it do? What is the difference? Why should you do a gotts mod instead of just a simple CAI install? I don't seem to understand... I'm knew to all of this and just trying to get some answers.

Thanks.

Head over here and "search this forum" category only. That's where all the info is.

Be careful modifying the 3V intakes without a tune. - You can run dangerously lean.

Joe,

The main reason is the fact that the Gotts costs about $12, as opposed to the CAIs, which usually run upwards of $200.

You also don't have the MAF fouling issues if you keep a dry filter in it. A CAI only has 2 advantages - it looks cool and it makes noise. A CAI doesn't breathe any better than a Gotts, and the IAT can actually be lower with a Gotts.

I personally think they are ugly. the stock look is much cleaner. New cars aren't the same as old one where you ditched the ugly stock air cleaner and all is unnecessary crap for a clean looking chrome air cleaner. The CAI's look nasty..
