1998 f150 4.6 Engine swap

Hey everyone new to the forum. I just did an engine swap in my backyard on a 1998 f150 with a 4.6. If anyone has any questions or advice on the subject leave a comment.

Hi David

I have a question. How many beers did it take to do the swap. I mean "hours"

Honestly I took my time, It was not the easiest job but very doable. I would say if you just went at it you are looking at 30 hrs. That is by yourself in the backyard. Alot of time could be taken off if you had use of a shop lift. Just make sure you label everything before you take it off(mostly talking about the wiring harness and the upper intake connections. You will have to take off the upper intake to do this job. If you call a shop they will tell you the job hrs are about 21. I had the famous head gasket leak. One day at startup i threw a rod. I ordered a used engine from Woodfins with a three yr warranty to save some money. It came complete which helped the job go smoothly.

i too, must have had this leak, i am finishing up my 5.4 swap hopefully today. my 4.6 never gave a single problem then one day it started knocking(set for long periods) and threw a rod idleing.all the bearings looks excellent imo. the rod appeared to have been , in lack of a better term , squished. and it did work on the block and pan. it had some what of an antifreeze smell before it went.
