So while I can say the Amsoil failed, there has to be an under lying reason why this oil fell apart. I've eliminated the coolant as we tested for a head gasket and hydrocarbons- that was negative. So until I have the chance to test this stuff.... Best of luck.
OK, Labnerd..kudos to you for helping a friend out..I would do the same thing . I think I will go back to Motorcraft for the time being, but I truly would like to hear about your findings as I (was) a fan of Amsoil...so, please stay in touch with this issue and good luck. Wish I could be of some help to you.

Honestly, I could care less how long it takes. As long as they fix it and I won't have to go back in a couple hundred miles for the same problem or a related problem. I was taught to do the job once and do it right the first time! Who knows what is being taught now a days?

ok, got the truck back and its running as good as new. getting 16.5 mpg per the on board computer. Turns out they replaced the pass. side lifters as some were bad, cam shaft position sensor, adjuster assembly, and also found that the pass side exhaust manifold cracked.

Is there some big problem with the exhaust manifolds as the more I read, they more people are having problems with them. My 05 FX4 F150 had the pass side manifold warp and leak as well.

Either way, its all fixed and running fantastic. Service advisor said it would have cost over 4 grand if it was not covered by the power train warranty.

It simply could have been one lifter or two lifters that went bad. From what I remember in autoshop, if a lifter went bad, you had to replace them as a matched set.

As for the exhaust manifold, I feel that there is no excuse for it to have cracked like that. This is the second F150 that I have owned since 2005 when I got my 05 F150 that has had an issue with either a warping or cracked exhaust manifold.

Labnerd, I think Amsoil's warranty may help you out with your buddy's engine.

That normally would be ideal. Unfortunately, when I asked if he had the oil that came out of it, he said yes and pointed to a container. Needless to say I took a sample from it and thought that was going to be it. But, as usual, it didn't work that way. Seems he was having the oil lube place change his oil. He has the receipt showing Amsoil but when this happened he managed to get the truck to the oil change place- it's an independent shop that a lot of locals use. The shop owner called Amsoil who advised them to flush the engine. So the failed oil went in the recycle drum and my sample is of the flush. I'm still going to try to find out what happened as this engine is sludged and it might be beyond repair. We did all of the top work as the cylinders/rings looked good. But now I can't get any oil pressure to the top end for either side. I have a feeling that these tiny oil ports are clogged up and we may have to do a complete disassembly and boil the block. That's pretty much where it stands now. He's considering a new truck instead if he can land a job in the new oil fields here. I intend to take a sludge sample/flush sample and attempt to cut it with pale oil and see what I can find- probably nothing but I'm going to try. My curiosity is wanting to know what went wrong but it's unlikely I'll ever know.
