Question Resetting Factory Computer

OK, I just installed a Ravin exhaust, WMS Velocity Tube, and a K&N. Reading through these threads, I noticed others saying you need to reset the factory computer to address these new additions. From what I understand, all you have to do is disconnect the battery for 15 minutes or more, reconnect, and then the computer will relearn everything.

My question is, once the battery is reconnected and I crank the truck up, do I just let it sit there and idle for awhile or do I take it out for a spin to show it how I like to drive??

Thumbs up

I reset mine about once every couple of months, keeps the computer on it's toes If you want to do a complete memory clearing, disconnect the negative batt. cable. Before you disconnect it,turn the headlights on. This will clear out any residual voltage left in the comp.(which keeps the old program running) After you let it sit five or ten minutes, reconnect the battery, and then turn the lights back off. Start it up and drive it like your on the way to a fire
The computer can learn to be slower, because it uses your driving habits to tune the engine the way it gets driven. Give it a WOT run every once in awhile to keep it happy. I do it three or four times a day, lol. If you don't have a chip yet,get one! Do this same procedure after you install it,and enjoy,,,,,98

Careful,mods are addicting

Thanks Screamer - I am going home tonight to do this!!!! 1) I did not drain the reserve power (wondered why the radio kept the time and the presets). 2) Once I reconnected the battery, I just cranked it and let it idle - guess this is only good if I plan on staying home. I wondered why a really did not see any difference in performance once adding these things. They look and sound cool, though!!!

Well, the computer would eventually count those items in,and tune the engine a little differently. You may not notice that much of a difference, depending on how long they have been on there. The computer may have factored them in already If you do get a chip,it will tie them all together nicely plus great shifts,,,,98
