Doesn't sound like a proper diagnosis IMO. Did you bring it a Ford Dealership ?

Well, I'd compression test it anyway. At least that will tell you the condition of the engine. I'm not as familiar with the 3 valve, but a 2 valve can get 300,000 miles fairly easily. From what you posted above, the head doesn't need to come off for that repair.

Yea, that's an easy fix with Time Sert. If that's not big enough, you could install a Big Sert. All can be done without removing the head.

Regardless, compression test it first, to determine internal damage IF any. You would have to either thread (tap) the plug chamber and use a reducer of some kind to test compression the way it is,- or just go ahead and sert it, - uknow, fix the thread-less hole so you can achieve accurate reading.

But, -if you can't do this yourself, you r pretty much at the dealerships mercy. You can rent a Time sert/Big sert kit for this job. It's an option.

Well, that goes for the 2 valve as well. They all say that lol. But like the 2V, the 3V can be done over the fender. Takes a little common sense with handling the shavings.
