What is considered rough idle?
Just curious, what do you all consider a rough idling condition?
My truck was/is idling rough, or so I think. The trucks tach shows no fluctuation in the idle speed (typically at/above 500 rpm). I bought a scanner and hooked it up. The truck seems to idle at 650rpm +/- 10 rpm. But I have a vibration that makes it feel like its idling rough.
As a side bar, what is the typical timing for a 5.4 3v? The timing on mine is anywhere from 10.5-37...
Just curious...my truck seems to run really bad lately...loss of/ or no fuel economy. I have tried a bunch of simple stuff with no improvement (replaced fuel filter, cleaned air filter, mafs, and throttle body). Plugs were changed at 80K, and it doesnt show any codes.
Regards!

You might have the leaky injector issue.

You might have clogged cats, a muffler shop can test for that.
There is no "typical" timing - it's all under dynamic PCM control. Not like the old days.

I pulled the injectors last week...
I did the simple test by putting paper cups under them...no leaks...
I am afraid to take the truck to the dealer for further diagnosis...they either can't find anything wrong or ignore my complaints in the past...maybe since I am no longer warranty, they can find thousands of dollars worth of problems?
