Question Sea Foam

Has anyone used sea foam to clean engine? Guy at parts store recomends me to use in crank case before I do my oil change. Is their any side effects? Kinda scared to put something don't know much about into engine.

That's so he can sell you more parts in the future. Maybe he pedals used engines on the side ?

Don't use it, it's Snake Oil.

Would you put solvents that eat rubber and gaskets in your engine? As Jbrew said snake oil.
If you believe you have a sludge problem then there are better things out there. Auto RX and Kreen from Kano Labs seem to get good reviews.

Yep, Auto RX is one of the best , or the best. You can also do your engine some good with a dealership provided Motorvac Service and/or BG Service. Those are both good services. I do the Motorvac every 3 years or so.

sea foam is generally used as a fuel system addetive. ive never heard of using it to clean a sludged up motor. works great for fuel system cleaning/maintanance... imo

AutoRX as an oil treatment for sludge, Techron or Gumout with Regane for a fuel additive.

I use sea foam on all my vehicles (f150, geo metro, 2 Harley davidsons) right before I change the oil.

Around 200-500 miles before an oil change I put a half bottle in the crank case & a half bottle in the gas tank.

I've used Seafoam in the oil on a 1966 vintage vehicle with a very sludged up engine. The engine used to burn oil but now that the oil control rings are desludged by the Seafoam it doesn't smoke. Actually runs extremely well now.

There has been no seal damage, as has been alleged, although ANY "engine cleaner" may harm the seals no matter who makes it particularly if used over a long period of time.
