Do people swap in 3v 5.4's in their 98-03 trucks?

I know the newer 5.4's are up to 300 hp, which is what the dohc 5.4's were at. The sohc are simpler and probably lighter. Is there a reason why this isn't as popular as other swaps? Just curious.

A bit more work involved and way more cost. People do it though. But for the average joe, if he is need of a swap, goes for the 2v swap for efficiency, reliability, time and money.

If I were going to do a swap like that I'd hold out for a new 5.0 They oughta be showing up in the wrecking yards soon and you can already buy a new one from ford motorsports. They even make a kit for the swap..

There's at least one horror story in the threads about a 3V swap. (I tried to find the link, but couldn't seem to). If I recall there was a lot of mess around accessory bolt-up and clearance issues. From memory, I think some brackets and such had to be fabbed and eventually the front cover from a different donor (an F250 maybe?) had to be used. It was enough of a horror story that I decided against it to go with the 4V Navi setup myself (in progress).

My recollection (which is not always "spot on") is that Tajerame was a big contributor on that thread (as on many threads here... Thx Taj!)... maybe Taj. has the link.

It might be fun if you're looking for a project, but if you're looking to get back on the road in a decent amount of time, my opinion, from what was written and my own research, is that it would not lend itself to that end.

Anyone who has completed a 3V swap, feel free to contradict me.
