2001 5.4L SC 4x4...sluggish
2001 5.4L SC 4x4...sluggish
I have had the truck above for about 6 months. As far as I can tell, it's stock to the bone with an automatic tranny with 190k miles on it...and that's all good. I'm not worried about modifying it to death. On the other hand, it's been sluggish lately.
After idling for any extended period of time (15-20 minutes) OR riding through pastures or ranch land, it simply doesn't want to respond to the throttle. Sometimes the transmission doesn't cycle back to first gear, so I understand that COULD be part of the problem too.
Does anyone here have any advice on how to get more response from this motor?? Also, any advice on the transmission shift points wouldn't hurt. I'm not a gearhead, but I'm capable of almost anything mechanical.
Thanks,
JM

No engine light...all guages in normal operating range...no excessive overflow or steaming that would indicate excessive heat in cooling system...everything seems normal as a Summer day with the exception of loss of power after idling period and/or during stop & go driving for extended periods around town.
I'm a bit baffled, but that's why I"m here!

Sluggish only after extended idling/ or extended low RPMs, & fully warm?
how does it act cold?
does it seem sluggish with general highway driving (45-65mph) for same period? (without extended idling/ or extended low RPMs)
does it improve after you get it up to highway speed? (after extended idling/ or extended low RPMs)
might be just as fuel filter...when was it changed?
Might be that your tranny fluid temp is too high after this extended idling/ or low RPM ...maybe your due for a trans flush and new filter?
Or it maybe a sign of a weak torque converter??
