Radiator
Radiator
I read that the radiator in my truck should be the two row unit. I have the one row unit.
I tried to talk to the service manager about this, and he said he has delt with this in the past, and Ford says they made a change to the one row radiator for the H.D. cooling. Therfore they will not replace it.
Is this true or not? If so I con't care much, but if I paid for a two row radiator and didn't get it, I want what I paid for.
The truck is a 2001, 4X4, supercab, 5.4, with towing group, off road group.

Thanks guys, I asked a very simple question that could be answered with a simple yes or no. Nobody can take the time to answer it, but they can take the time to post a note sayign do a search. I did searxh, and I'm stull unlcear as to what radiatior Im supposed to have.
I won't bother you guys again and interupt your talking about what wax and oil to use.

This is a hot button issue which has been debated for several months, in many forums. You need to evaluate the (available) info and make your own, INFORMED decision on whether it is worth pursuing and what strategy you want to use. Here is a thread to prime the pump - - it has over 600 posts. Don't know if you'll find "a simple yes or no" in the thread. Some are pursuing a larger radiator - - others are not. Ford sez the single row, narrow radiator is sufficient and they changed the (tow package) radiator specs, but did not inform customers. You can draw your own conclusions from my "take" or read through some of the excellent posts in the thread for detailed info. Over to you ....

Howdy All,
Been watching the Radiator thread since it began. My opinions are.
For those that purchased their 2000 model year (August, 1999 thru June, 2000) I believe that with the trailer tow package that these should have came with the 2.20” thick radiator with two rows of tubes without a doubt.
Then due to the model change over for the 2001 model year sometime in June, 2000. I believe at that time they began installing the 1.42” thick radiator with one row of tubes. As these parts became available. I believe that this was an Engineering change that they planned for the 2001 model year. When you compare the specs between the 2000 2.20” radiator with the 2001 1.42” radiator, you’ll notice that both cooling systems are the same capacity (25.5 quarts) When you compare the number of fins the 2.20” has 10.16 fins per inch and the 1.42” radiator has 15.24 fins per inch.
I believe that they redesigned the radiator for the trailer tow package for the 2001 model year so that it would perform better or equal to the previous design. Did they conclude that they had better airflow with the single core or better heat transfer with more fins per inch? And could they get the same cooling efficiency/performance and cut the cost of the part?
Today while looking over all the info I had gathered from the web and from a kind gentlemen that sent me a copy of his invoice. I remembered that somewhere I had a printout from the dealer with all the part numbers on them. I asked for a printout of all the available radiators for a 2000 model year while I was at the dealer on April 06, 2001. While looking at the printout trying to figure out which radiator I was supposed to have. I noticed a Notation at the top of the printout. It states “replacement radiator may look different from original, EG., less cores, this is do to a fin and tube design change for better air flow and cooling. Functionality not affected.
Now I can’t Es Plain why some of us with the trailer tow package have the wrong radiator, and the fact that this happen to the early built 2000 model years. Although I can see where there would be a HuGE mix-up in the model year change over for late 2000 early 2001 models. Joe line worker installs the single core radiators in the trucks with the tow package because he ASSumes or is told that these are the new design single core radiators that are installed with the trailer tow package.
Basically in a NuTT SheLL early 2000 should have 2.20” radiators and late 2000 early 2001 model years should have the 1.42” radiator or 2.20” radiator. I would say that an easy way to verify your radiator is by measuring it. Don't assume that if you have a single core radiator that it is the wrong one.
2.20" two core with trailer tow
1.42" single core "New Design"
1.02 single core standard radiator without trailer tow

Howdy All,
I tried to upload the part number printout that I had with my previous post via the file attachment. I don't see it anywhere or a Button to push to make it appear LUCY you got sum ES Plain'N
It must be in Web-Land.
LetZ try this
