99 5.4 is it npi or pi how can i tell
If it is the original engine (should have a metal/aluminum intake manifold) then it is PI. 99+ 5.4L are PI engines in the trucks.
You can find the build/production date on stickers found on the front timing cover or drivers side valve cover. Otherwise, I believe the back of the head should have a PI stamp.

thanks for the info guys it is a 99 f-150 xlt 4x4 5.4 4r70 and it is the origanal motor with 178,000 miles i did hear it run and it sounded good with no rattles but the man said that it starts to run rich after running a while he wants 600 for the engine and 1200 hundred for the whole truck (pretty much complete still)
