Probably cam phasers or injector noise.

Sounds:

Cam phasers knock. Injectors, lifters, exhaust manifold leak all tick.

I know its not the exhaust manifold. I don't think its the injectors. I think its the cam fases. Is this serious.

Cam phasers are noisy. Doesn't bother me a bit and my truck runs great and averages 17.5 mpg at over 100,000 miles.

Some people go so far as to throw their money at a Ford dealer to replace cam phasers just because they are noisy, even though they function perfectly fine when noisy.

Delaers love noisy cam phasers. $$$

My 2010 makes the same noise and i talked to several ford dealers and mechanic, they all said that they wouldn't touch it if the check engine light hasn't come on. But hey say on my truck that it is injector noise and I think there is a tsb on that for certain year trucks.

Well way back when I bought it I think it was around $600. I believe the Reflexxions cowl hoods can be had for around $400 these days.

Tip: get it painted if you get one.
