Help Please!

So recently my truck has developed a ticking noise. And its ANNOYING the crap out of me! It's sounds like it's coming from the front of the truck. I took it to the dealer to get it checked out and they said that it's coming from under the left side valve cover (looking under the hood). They confirmed that it's not an exhaust leak. They think it could be as simple as a valve adjustment or something with the cam. It happens when it's running at normal temp and the ticking sound goes along with the RPM's. From doing some research on here I think it might be the cam phasers. But I don't know. Was hoping to get some opinions. Btw, the truck is an 05 scab 5.4L 76k miles and no engine mods. Thanks guys!

With the gas smell, I bet you have a loose plug.

Yes. Compressed air and fuel blowing through the loose plug.

So I took it back to the garage. They said that they checked all the plugs and they were all tight. However, they think the fuel smell is an injector and had informed me that ford has an extended warrenty on replacing stuck injectors. Because I had also seen a drop in fuel economy. He looked it up and gave me a number 07m08 recall. He said the dealer should replace it. Now as far as the ticking noise, he showed me TSB 06-19-8. And he believes its the cam phasers. Is there also an extended warrenty on the cam phasers? My truck has 76k miles on it.

You should be fine to and have little to no out of pocket costs for the cam phasers.

I had the same problem as far as the gas smell. My number 1 injector failed and Ford replaced it at no cost. During the replacement of the injector, Ford recommended a "tune up" which included the Spark Plugs being replaced among other things. After the Ford "tune up", I had a ticking noise which I took back to ford and they said it was my cam phasers. Ford than replaced my cam phasers but the ticking noise was still there. Long story short, Ford did not tighten my spark plugs which caused arcing. I had Ford replace the plugs and the noise went away.

The cam phasers do not have an extended warranty like the injectors. Those are going to cost quite a bit.
