4.6L swap out?

I have a 97 f 150 4.6L extended cab, 4x4, 5-SPEED!!yes a 5 speed.I was wondering what would be a good swap and how involved would it be to put in a 5.4 or even a 4.6 out of a mustang(if its possible, i can get a wrecked one cheap).Im old school and used to work on the trucks out of the 70's when it was simple, ha ha. This newer stuff is a little sketchy to me. Im very mechanical, but dont know about if computers are the same wiring, motor mounts that sort of thing. So if any one could give me some info, it would be appreciated. Im new to this forum , so thanks for your time and tips .

Search user JMC, under his sig is the swap notes for doing exactly this. You should read through all of this first.

Hope this helps.

If you put anything more powerful in there, you will be going through transmissions.

Then why is JMC on his 5th transmission? The M5OD is not that strong a tranny. Why else would they have never offered it in the 5.4 and discontinued it in the 4.6 NBS, leaving it only behind the V-6?

I was being sarcastic,

after the rookies telling us off for suggesting gear swaps for 35 and 37 inch tires, I figured we might as well start throwing the BS falg on everyone
