misfire on cylinder 1
misfire on cylinder 1
I have been going down the list getting rid of codes that I have had for a long time and one that I cannot get rid and am running out of ideas is this whole misfire on cylinder 1.
here is what I have done to get rid of it:
changed the spark plugs, the wires, and the coil pack
then I read on hear someone said to see if it is the injector switch the cylinder that is misfiring and one that is not around and clear the codes and see if it still does it, so I did that and it still comes back.
does anyone have any other suggestions that I can try or something else I can check

Have you ran a compression test on that cylinder? Hate to ask that but I would check if in your shoes. Also the injector on that cylinder might be bad as well. You don't by chance an extra sitting around do you? I think its 4 7mm bolts that hold the fuel rail, unbolt it and pull the injector and inspect to see if anything is visibly wrong with it. I can go grab the shop book and look to see what the test values are for the injector are if you like. or you can swap that injector with another cylinder, like the one beside it, and see if that causes a misfire on the cylinder that you swap it to. You might if you have some seafoam around the house pouring a little right into the injector and letting it sit for a little while too. possible its got some micron particles lodged in it that are clogging it up.
It's 4 8mm bolts shockey. The 7mm are found only on COP system coils.
Stephen87,
1.) Replace fuel filter and check fuel pressure. #1 is furthest from the pump. So a weak pump will pick on #1.
Pump/pressure is okay ? Yes -
2.) Throw a spare plug into #1 plug boot and ground it to that big bolt, front of the motor. Can't miss it. Fire it up to double check spark.
3.) Other than that, yes a compression test. Fails compression, -check follower. Follower okay/yes, = bad valve.
Test procedure in sig -

Your verifying spark, - determining whether or not the problem is Primary or Secondary. Yea, that old trick still works and cancels both.
it should be a BRIGHT BRIGHT purple spark. also watch out those new coil packs have a punch to them i was pulling wires to see what cyl had a misfire after changing my coils it arched to my hand then arch out of my leg to the bumper it was pretty shocking!! ha.
what brand of plugs did you get??
all of what Jbrew said lol.

I got motorcraft plugs and as for the coil packs packing a punch yea I learned that the hard way, a few years ago when I was trying to figure out why it was misfiring I pulled the wire off of the coil pack and started to run the truck and it arced around 6 inches to my forarm and it felt like someone hit me with a hammer
I did the sparkplug one and now I am waiting for a friend to get out of work to borrow his compression tester and I am trying to find someone who has a fuel pressure tester since I dont have the 50 bux to buy one or the 150 bux to rent one
autozone normaly rents them out for 30 bucks and you get your money back on the fuel press test.
Also remember to do a vol. test it should be able to fill up a 1/4 of a water bottle in about 5 seconds or less IIRC from school.
how did the spark look?

the spark was purple and if I held it around 3 inches from the bolt the spark would arc from the spark plug to the bolt, it was awesome, and the one autozone showed me for rent was 150 dollars
Ah hell, on my old lawn mower, the only way to shut it off was the pull the plug wire, it bit me every time, right through the boot. And I always did it by hand. When I was about 19, I was bet $50 I wouldn't pull the plug wire with my teeth by a neighbor friend... 50 bucks later I had a new pair of shoes. I think my ears are still ringing from that one.
Never seen a spark jump 3" though.
