oil matter

Hi guys i drive a 06 5.4 supercrew. I live in a city where all year long is 90f degrees sometimes 95. I am in a dilema here, must people say even mechanics that to this motor you need to put a different oil like 15w-20,30 0r 40 and 20w-20,30 or 40 cause the weather here. In my truck i had use since brand new 5w-20 but i have noticed that when the truck is near to the next oil change i checked the dipstik and needs like a quater this is happening since brand new, i had always change the oil in 3 thousand miles intervals and use the motorcraft oil filter. Should i keep using the OEM oil or use another grade?

thanks guys.

Keep using the 5W-20 Motorcraft Syn Blend oil. It is really good stuff.

Stay with the 5-20 and that is not enough oil usage to be concerned.

And don't worry about using a LITTLE oil, just means it's getting good lubrication. A lot of people think a vehicle shouldn't use ANY oil between changes. That's basically nuts. I have had quite a few new vehicles in my life, and even with 4cyl., 6cyl., and V-8 I have usually used about 1 pint or a little more in a 3000 mi oil change. A qt. in 3000 mi.shouldn't be any problem. I would also suggest staying with 5-20 Motorcraft Semi-synthetic. That way the thinner oil gets to the bearings and other wear surfaces quicker. You don't need thick oil to cushion the way you used to, engines today are much more precision machined than they used to be. Keep doing what you're doing, ignore your friends advice and sleep well!

Your engine may not run much hotter than mine does, and it was 17*F when I started mine this morning. The only difference yours will start easier and reach operating temp quicker.

I dont think theres really much of a difference the 5w-30 would be fine and all. Ford recommends 5w-20 so I'd stick with that. 5w-30 wont hurt it though.

I've got 170xxx plus miles in mine and only use the 5w20 and it drops about 1/2 quart between 3k changes, mostly from the rear main weeping a bit. It gets well over 100 degrees in the summer here. I see no reason to change.

I commonly see 49C temps here and higher at times. Weather has nothing to do with lubrication where you live. You don't have arctic cold starts and the general temps run from 17C to 30C in Venezuela which is moderate by comparison to what we see in Texas. You have no need for anything other than the Xw-20 oils. If you have Motorcraft Oil there, it's a darn good one as well as Pennzoil yellow bottle.
