Misfire

Hey all, trucks been sputtering when I use the cruise control accelerate button and I finally got the engine light to come on and stay on (it would just flash for a second or two and then go back off) and it came back as a P0307 which I already know is a misfire of cylinder #7, but it also said FALT CY C. What's the falt cy c mean? I'm going to assume it's time to change the plugs for a 3rd time. Any input is much appreciated.

Its a coil or plug. First thing is to move the coil and see if the miss moves with it. move 7 coil to 5 or 1.

Update

Switched the #7 coil to the #5 plug and it came back as a code P0305 so it's the coil. Will try to replace it tomorrow.

forgot to update

Sorry about that. Finally got the money to replace the bad coil (pricey little buggers) and put the new one on this past Monday. Before I put the new one in, I was getting a lot of hesitation when lightly accelerating or using the cc accel button, roughly at around 40 to 50 mph or close to 2k rpms, and it seemed a lot worse when using the cruise accel button. It was so bad at times that it was kind of jerking. I had to punch it or step on the gas pedal to get it to stop. I know what I was doing was probably not a good thing. Now at that time, it was not throwing any codes so it was hard for me to diagnose, and this continued on for around a month. The engine light finally started to flash, but for only for a few seconds and would not stay on, so I couldn't get my tuner to read any DTC's. I finally just stayed on the pedal just enough for the engine light to come on and stay on to which it came back as a P0307 and thanks to jethat I was able to diagnose it as a bad coil. Well since replacing the coil, the hesitation is not as bad but is still there, though a lot less frequently, and I know I am still have problems with it, and as before, no engine light or codes to read. I've done a search and can't find anything related to my issues (though I'm sure it's there and I am just not using the search function properly), so I am in need of some ideas. Was wondering if I toasted 1 of the cats, or maybe it's another coil, as when one starts to go the others will follow, or maybe even the fuel injectors are starting to go on me. I know these '05s have had issues w/ the injectors, which is the scariest part for me. The truck is a 5.4, has 187,000 miles on it and none of these things have ever been replaced. Any ideas fellas? As always, any help is much appreciated. Thanx

Go over to e-bay search DG511 Get a whole set of coils. (should have told you that in the first place sorry) set of 8 is about $100.. Have the plugs been changed lately? If not that might be a good idea with all them miles. Get the set of coil, have the plugs changed or if you do it yourself be aware of the sticking/breaking plug issue that engine has. Be prepared for them to break. Have the broken plug removal tool before you even start. Change your fuel filter.

Hey jet thanks for posting. First thing I did when this started happening was change the the fuel filter and throw some injector cleaner in there since I broke the cardinal rule of fueling up by getting gas while the station was having it's tanks refilled, probably got some stirred up crap in the tank, which is when all this began, I forgot to mention that, my bad. After doing that there was no change in the hesitation but I got the code to show up, so that was just a coincidence. As for the plugs, I've already changed them twice without any breakage (knock on wood) so I'm no stranger to that either or what can happen when changing them, they are probably due again. Problem is, I can't afford to get an entire set of coils or plugs and to to me that would be just throwing money at the problem. That being said, I know it is overdue for those things things to be done anyway and will do them ASAP. I just wish there was a way to know for sure what's going on. When I do get the new coils I don't want to do the ebay thing but rather splurge the extra $60 for Motorcraft coils from Rockauto.

That's just foolish. The only difference when referring to coils,- is price. I guess if you have deep enough pockets, it doesn't really matter.

Yeah I don't know, I have read where some have had issues with the coils off ebay. Are those good coils jbrew? What brand and from what ebay store are they?

Never mind about the last 2 questions, I just read jets post again.

1 search result, plenty more out there. Uneeksupply I like because of the life time guarantee. Some have an issue with them, I do not.

You have the 5.4 3v so the part number is DG-511 the E-bay coils are used by lots of people on this board with good results. is it possible to get a bad one out of the box? absolutely. Some recomend getting the set for the V10 so you have 2 spares or if your cheap just save the knoown good old coils. Sound like you have 1 brand new one. The OEM coils are $80 get em on e-bay for 100 a set of 8. I call that saving money not throwing it away. Generally 1 goes bad then another then another..

Mine came from Global Auto and are made by GAMMA. -

Coils are identical to OEM, = Same # ident locations stamped in certain areas (same as the OEM's, just different numbers). OEM's don't say Gamma, but other than that they look the same. I think they all originate from the same supplier.

508's pictured, - 511's are for the three valves. -
