a/c clutch change

Any help would be great! The a/c clutch froze up on my 1998 4x4. Do I need to remove compressor from truck? Also how do you get what looks like a clip out of front of pulley?

The clutch hub and pulley can be replaced without removing he compressor from the vehicle.

Use a large 90 degree snap-ring pliers to remove the ring.

If the hoses are long enough, and there's clearance between the engine & wheelwell, it might be easier to do with the compressor detached from its bracket, but don't open the refrigerant system.

it can be done with the compressor in place. you could remove the fan and shroud to gain some extra room.

hi,i own a '98 F150 4x4 4.6 V8 and my ac clutch froze up. I was wondering if I could do it myself since I've read some instructions on auto repair manual and it seems to be easy but my friend says it's a big task to repair it myself. And what I saw was a general instruction manual. is this really not a novice repair job?

Can you change the belt? Do you have snap-ring pliers?

I got it apart but it came apart in pieces. Just hope I got everything off that needs to come off. Time to order the new one. Will check back in a couple days and let you know how it goes.
