1993 Bronco idle/shift issues?
1993 Bronco idle/shift issues?
Hey guys, tech question... 93 Bronco 5.8L auto. When I press over 1/2 throttle the engine won't idle back down past 2500 or so, also won't shift until 3500 or 4000. If I drive around awhile, it will calm back down, but if I cut it off while this is going on, it is very hard to start, you have to floor it to crank it. Any ideas? Thanks.
With the engine off & hood open, press the gas pedal to the floor & slowly release it. Then look at the floor mat. If it's OK, remove the throttle lever cover on top of the engine and examine the cable & linkage, including the throttle stop screw. The linkage should be resting against the screw. If not, something is mechanically binding. Look at the throttle shaft, and look into the throttle bores. Look for kinks in the cable.
Then check fuel pressure, TPS, vacuum leaks (use a stethoscope; no flammable sprays), and IAC deposits, & pull codes.
