Pulling my hair out

I have a 2003 f150. 5.4 ltr 4x4. does not start it cranks over fine, fuel pressure is at 40psi, battery full charge. It starts doing this in the cold, so i tried plugging in the heater for the first time and it trips the gfi outlet in my garage. I also replaced the fuel pressure regulator and fuel filter. oh and there are no trouble codes coming up. I'm also not sure if 40psi is enough pressure because the repair manual i have doesn't give that specification.

40 PSI is right.

How many miles on it and what is its maintenance history?

IAC maybe.. Worth a shot since its easy to clean. The first time I ever had trouble with an IAC years ago, it started intermittently but eventually over the coarse of a few days got to the point that it didn't start at all. Anything like that lead up to the no start issue? Or just one day it wouldn't start..

no code came up. a mechanic friend of mine told me what it might be. Oh and a word of caution if this happens to anyone don't keep turning it over. you'll get no spark but it will keep dumping fuel which seeps past the rings and into the oil. to see if i had spark i used the handy man's other secret weapon... starter fluid.

You try cleaning the IAC yet? Its free and takes about 45 mins maybe. When its dirty, it can lead to intermittent starts.

Definitely start with the IAC. You check for bad fuses? The bolts that secured the fuse box underneath my dash (still next to the e-brake on the '03 I assume?) came loose and sure enought the first fuse that rattled loose was the ignition coils. Not sure if this is a valid suggestion with COP's but maybe worth a try?...More info would be helpful i.e. the previous maintenance history question.

The PCM also shuts the injectors down after a 4 second crank. Then your on timer, - it won't start for awhile. This is to protect your converters.

if its an iac, its not starting because its not getting enough air to start. they stick closed. crack the throttle a little bit and crank it. if it starts its an iac. if it starts and stalls when you let off the throttle its an iac. have you put a fuel pressure gauge on it and let it sit and then check the fuel pressure while cranking when it wont start. fuel pressure should jump right up when you hit the key. if it takes a couple of key cycles to build pressure its the pump. if you have fuel and air, the only thing left is to verify injector pulse and spark while cranking.

sorry for the late response. okay i've replaced the iac with no change. I have fuel pressure. i'm not getting any spark it seems. i used some stater fluid and got nothing. also bought a crank sensor but have yet to install it. i'll be installing the crank sensor next weekend. but until then i'll be spending another week of my brother giving me crap for buying a ford. hopefully I can get it going so i can run over his foreign pos.

does anybody have any other suggestions?

Crank positioning sensor, lower passenger side of the front cover. I had a friend with similar problems and that's what was faulty. Good, I see you have it anyways, tell your bro to f off, what does he buy, Chevy? Toyota?

Just curious, do you have any performance stuff on it or bone stock? Another problem might be your PATS key and or ignition switch, I forget if they tie together as one.
