Raw Gas Smell

Recently, I noticed a gas smell coming from my 1999 F150. The smell is more noticeable when the engine is warming up, but when at a stop I get a whiff of odor.

what do the experts say?

Check for a fuel leak. Reach up under the gas tank and feel the hoses coming out of the fuel tank. Follow the lines from there to the engine compartment. Has any work been done recently to the engine or fuel filter?

I don't know if the '99's were involved, but my '97 had a TSB on it regarding the fuel lines as it comes into the engine compartment. What could happen is the rubber hose part could rub on the firewall or something or other and cause it to wear and become weak or even leak..

The 'fix' was for the dealer to do a visual check of this and determine if the hoses have already rubbed, or if they were clear...

Mine were reported as being 'clear', so nothing was needed to be done, other then they checked my VIN off in their system to say that it had been checked..

Or, you have some other fuel system leak someplace..

Might want to check your fuel filter connections for a start..

Good luck and no flaming on!!
