5.4 2v questions

Well I got a question for you all to work on. Why does the 5.4 2v engine only mke 260 hp? Im more than happy with 350 lb-ft of torque but whats up with 260 hp. Ive studied the 5.4 in service manuals and repair manuals and cant quite seem to understand whats up with the lower horsepower motor. Plus these engines don't seem to respond very drastically to bolt ons. It seems like the ford engineers found all of the power at the factory. I understand that drastic improvements can be made with heads cams and other hard part upgrades while sacrificing reliability. I think it has something to do with the lack of intake draw of the engine. The pi head was the best thing that ever happened to the 2v. I also have questions about the intake manifold. Because of the increased height of the 5.4 I feel like the intake manifold probably lacks the volume to make this engine perform at higher rpms. If you guys have any input i would greatly appreciate it.

It's a TRUCK engine. It's built for torque, not horsepower.

So does my 4.6. But honestly, a 4 cylinder could do my trucks job, since I never use it as a truck.

I guess you guys are right. It makes gobbs of torque in the bottom end and is super reliable. Today I took my truck out into the rain and mud to go shoot quail and dove and was stuck for about 3 hours looking for a way to get out of a valley. I had the truck at high rpm, bouncing up and down, and even die out and run out of fuel because of a steep incline. At the end of the say I was towed out by a jeep. But the fact of the matter is for a 10 year old truck it fought till it couldn't move anymore. Even then the engine was running and the tires were spinning. After being submersed in mud revved to hell and ran out of gas, it purred home and thats all I really want from my truck. Now I gotta go get some new tires and maybe an alignment. I love my truck but could probably go for some 4wd and maybe a winch.
