2000 f150 5.4 no start
I spent some time in the search mode but found I was reading too much BS and not enough meat associated with my condition. Truck has 165k and ran real well when parked Friday night. Saturday wouldn't start not even a caugh or sputter. Battery is real strong and will crank engine over plenty quick yet no signs of ignition. Things to check please? Seems odd to run fine then not at all without any indication of a problem occuring. No spark using starter fluid either.
Thanks,
Ricochet

My first thought was fuel pump. I can hear what sounds litkeit trying to prime but it's not a healthy sound. With a fuel pump problem does the computer automatically stop ignition. I'm not getting anything even using starting fluid in the intake tract. Where exactly is this fuel shut off? I've been searching for my manual to no avail.
Thanks guys. Keep any suggestions coming.

If it's not firing even with starter spray then it's most likely not getting any spark. The ignition will still work with a dead fuel pump. I had a 4.6 with a dead fuel pump and it would fire just fine with starter fluid into the throttle body.
No spark could mean a bunch of things though: wiring is one. Also I think it won't spark when the crank or cam position sensor is going bad, but I'll need someone to confirm that. Also if PATS is going bad for some reason it will kill ignition too.
Good Luck,
- Erik
if nothing else, check the crank sensor or have it checked, bottom of the front cover, pass side behind the a/c compressor. If your fuel pump sounds bad though, maybe it's the culprit and nothing more.
