need help identifying cut wire and module
Hi guys,
I have a 5.4 2001 screw with a Vortech supercharger.
Anyways I'm trying to figure out what cable was cut that you see in the pic and what is that module on top of the intake. I'm guessing it's a maf extender but I wanted to see if anybody knew. It seems to have 1 wire scotchlocked (tapped) into a factory wire.

The cut wire in the second picture is the 'cruise control recall'. Inside the part that looks cut is a fuseable link to prevent your truck from catching on fire. Apparantly, when the trucks were built, there was no fuse to prevent the cut of electrical current to the brake booster switch. After time the constant power to the cruise deactivation switch (located on brake booster) would melt and catch the brake fluid on fire and eventually set the engine compartment on fire while the truck is shut off. Now in your first picture, I'm not sure what that is. Looks to me like a security system, keyless start module, or something aftermarket not was not there when the truck was built.
Ah ok. It just looked spliced and taped over.
I took another look at the module and 1 wire is tapped into a maf sensor wire. I'm going to assume it's some sort of maf extender.

a MAF extender "extends" the voltage of the maf for performance reasons. I'm not to familiar with all the details but you can see that blue scotchlock right at the maf connector so that's what leads to to think what it is.

So it DEcalibrates the MAF... That would wreak havoc with the engine management system, including the transmission. The MAF is used for MANY functions other than just fueling. I've never heard of anyone wanting or selling something like that, but I guess stranger things have hit the market.
That's how those "magic" $29.95 chips (don't) work that you see advertised to increase gas mileage and performance. They are simply a resistor pack that taps into the MAF and/or the IAT sensor to artificially change the values.
