Question Newb needs some help with 5.4 swap

So I searched but just want to make sure. I have a 1998 F250 4x4 with the Triton 5.4 and auto. The motor is giving up (sounds like a rod or the infamous piston slap). I can get my hands on a 2000 5.4 which I know has the better heads but will it drop in with so long as I get a custom tune?
Thanks in advance....Mike

You shouldn't have to get a custom tune to run this motor. This should be an easy swap.

As long as the 2000 motor came out of a F150, - then yes , it has PI heads. If not, -it does not.

The 2000 was the first year of the Pi heads in the Super Duty. Check the engine cylinder head above the #1 exhaust port for a Pi casting.

Yea, I thought it was 2001. Maybe that was just the 4.6L. "PI" insigniates for sure.

I am in the process of dropping a '02 in my '97. Everything I have searched here and elsewhere says it should be fine. So far my biggest hang up is the two different belts used 8 rib on my '97 and 6 rib on the '02 but it isn't going to be a terrible problem. I am a few hours away from being able to pick the '97 out then have a few more hours worth of working on the '02 to get it ready to drop in.

Install your accessories and run a 6 rib belt.
