99 f150 cruise control

I got a 99 f150, 4.6. Last summer the cruise control started not turning off at the cruise button on steerring wheel...braking still releases cruise though....thought it might the be the control button on the steering wheel going out. I'd have to press it a couple of time and it would turn off...then it was ten times, then twenty...now it almost doesn't shut off so I've quit using it. Thre reason I think it's not the off button is because on a couple of occassion I've tuned the cruise off, the truck decelerates(sp?), but then the cruise picks back up a split second later. It doesn't want to shut off for some reason....so i don't think its the off button. Everything else seems to function as normal. I'm aware of the cruise recall, and did have it "repaired" a few years ago. If I understand correctly it was a bypass, not a replacement though. My symptoms sound exacly like the recall defect though. It may or may not be related. Ford wants a $110 diagnose fee to check if the "repair" is working properly, saying it's out of warranty already...typical. Ford wants me to pay to check out a Ford f-up. So I guess I'm off to fix something else myself. Anyone got any ideas to what part of the cruise system this sympton might be from here? I've had a lot of succes here before...great website...hoping someone recognizes this one too.

thanks

Thanks. I guess my next question is how to remove the switch? I'm hoping it doesn't involve the whole steering wheel.

Geez...this is why I love forums...always some enigma out there with his two cents. Read it again, I said ford wanted to charge me to check their REPAIR on a FORD RECALL, not for them to fix my 11 year old truck for free...go back to your cartoons.
