Question Comp Cam installation

Hi, I'm installing cams on my 2003 F150 5.4 2valve. Can anyone confirm if I need the cam gear locks? I just haven't been able to get a straight answer yet. Thanks in advance for any help you may have.

You need to lock the camshafts in place in order to install the cams. There are procedures all over the net in the mustang forums. The 5.4 is similar. A good shop manual will have the correct procedure.

BTW, your 5.4 has pressed on cam gears. Your aftermarket cams will need bolt on cam gears and bolts. Here is an example http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PAR-4523/

I've also heard the phaser limiter by Comp Cams called a lock. If that's the question then no, you don't need them as yours does not have phasers. Only the 3V engines need them.

Thanks for the helpful information. I was happy to find that I did not need those cam gear locks/ phasers.
