My son has an 02 with approx. 134K miles. On acceleration is starts skipping. The CEL light is NOT on and has not come on. Plugs, boots and fuel filter have all been changed. Can't get any readings because CEL light is not on...any suggestions on what is causing the skipping and if we take it to a Ford Dealership, can they get any readings?

 

I'd put an OBD-II reader on it anyway. There can be stored codes and no CEL. Probabilities are high that the COPs are starting to fail. Sometimes they'll code, sometimes they don't. Get the COPs from Ebay. They'll cost you less for all 8 than one from Ford. Uneeksupply and Global are good suppliers on fleaybay and a lot of the guys have used them with great success.

 

If its misfiring try changing your coil packs, and stay away from the dealership there a bunch of crooks.
