Smile preventive maint.

i purchased a 2005 f-150 5.4 3v truck used.it has 140,000 miles.it has a distinct ticking on pass. side,runs fine otherwise.i would like to change the phasers-chains-tensioners. i am retired and have plenty of time,have built several drag engines but have no experance on ford 5.4 triton.i have all the standard tools and factory manuals.what special tools (if any) would i have to purchase?

don`t see why you would need to have timing wedge or cam and crank lock if replaceing all of the parts?

The wedges keep the timing chain from falling off the crank sprocket, so that you don't have to remove the front cover. If you're planning to replace the chains, then it's not needed. I don't know about the cam lock - that may be needed to time the cams regardless.
