Cleaning Mud off an engine

Went off roading, and got my engine real muddy, a few people told me it would be fine to hose it or powerwash it. I wound up hosing it a little. Any reccomendations? Its a 2000 v8 4.6 l
Thanks In advance

Its fine to hose it as long as your are careful of the cop's (coils on top of each spark plug). They are sometimes prone to failure when they get real wet. I would highly recomend using compressed air to dry everything off and to drive it right after to dry things out even more.

I wash my engine but like was said I avoid spraying the center. If I got it really muddy I soak it and deal with the missfires.

I knew a guy who would park his truck on the lawn after a mud session and put a sprinkler under it for about 15 minutes. It worked pretty good too!

Although my engine is a little older (1990) and has less electronics, I usually just spray it off with a hose first to get the big chunks off, then I spray black magic engine degreaser and shine on it. It seems to get rid of most of the mud that the hose can't get off.

I spray mine at the car wash. It makes a mess at their place and the water is hot. I avoid the K&N air filter and blast away at all the rest. Then I also deal with any misfire issues. Mud holds moisture like a sponge so IMHO it needs to come off. FWIW all my electrical connectors are coated in dielectric grease.

I ran the sprinkler for like an hour changing the places, got some mud off the engine and did great in some other places too. Still need to hose it a bit but im in a better situation already. Ill have to grease some stuff up.

I just did this the other day and no problems whatsoever:

Bought a can of (i think) Black Magic engine degreaser/cleaner.
Went to coin operated wash.
Covered computer with three plastic bags
Covered alternator with a couple more bags.

Covered everything under hood with stuff I bought and went to town with LOW PRESSURE water. Worked very well.

go to a carwash and use low pressure, dont stay in one spot to long. dont try and get everything at once, you probably won't. go drive around and come back and do it again to get the spots you missed. works for me
