transmission guys: need some help

the transmission in my 2000 5.4L 4X4 has been actiong up bad. i noticed it was being sluggish, and just felt off so i decided to pull codes. it was spitting P0750, shifter solenoid. so i replaced the solenoid, and seemed fine for 5-10 miles. then the issue started again. and has now gotten worse. it wont shift until around 2000-2200, sometimes have to rev high then let off and it will shift. also very sluggish and chugs on hills at lower speeds. slipping out of gear, etc. so im pretty sure its toast. and im having trouble finding a matching transmission. i can find 2WD 5.4L's or 4X4 4.2's. will either of those work? i know on a 2WD the output is different. isit hard to swap over from my old trans?

thanks for the help yall, just a broke soldier that has to move cross country next month and trying to figure this out

You have to find a 4.6 or 5.4 4wd tranny. The 4.2 has a different bellhousing pattern.

You should have posted this in the transmissions forum, not the engines forum........

Thank you for your service.

sorry i posted in the wrong forum, i followed a google search on a similiar subject here. didnt have a definitive answer so i posted my thread. so i need a 4.6 or 5.4 trans? atleast the 4.6 widens my search a bit. and does it have to be from a 2000? i see that 2000 seems to be an oddball year on a lot of parts

and no need to thank me for the service. i need to be thanking you for the support, thats what makes it worth it all. im just guard, but will be going active next year

I believe it can be from a 1999 through 2003, as long as it's a 4R70W and it's a 4x4 4.6 or 5.4 V-8 trans. Verify that's what you have - it would be trans code "U" on the door jamb sticker. A very few 5.4's had a 4R100 door code "E", if you have one of those that makes a swap tough.

The M5OD-R2 tranny is a bit too weak for a 5.4. It's a light duty gearbox.
