Not a flame, but NOPE. If you don't use the stock Motorcrafts, put Denso Iridiums in it. Autolites are NOT the same as Motorcrafts.

 

Exactly. A simple resistance comparison will tell you why. I couldn't believe the difference from Autolite to Motorcraft, but that explained allot. I posted the numbers somewhere on this site. I also checked Champions and NGK's @ the same time. Only the NGK's matched the Motorcrafts.

I didn't have a Denso to check at the time, but I'm running those (Iridiums). The only difference I noticed with Iridiums so far is that my City mileage has improved. Highway mileage is the same tho. 16 City 16 Highway on cruise @ 78-79 mph.

 

Thanks for the head's up... I do agree that it's always a safe bet to use OEM parts as much as possible.

I've never once, had an issue going from Motorcraft to Autolite plugs. I have had issues with Bosch, NGK and Champion plugs. I actually had a '74 LTD with a 351W that would foul out every brand of plug I threw at it until I tried AC Delco's. Go figure???

Iridium are great plugs... Are they still running around $10 a piece?

Yea, we would be referring to the 97-02 Two valve, - before the updated heads. I never once heard of a NGK problem, - unless they were over tightened. There's been plenty of Autolite problems for said generation.

You can get Iridium's for between 7 - 8 bucks a piece @ Rock auto.

Was the resistance comparison done on both the Autolite Platinum and Double Platinum plugs?

I performed a thread search but couldn't locate a thread on plug resistance. I did find numerous positive and negative threads on Autolite plugs depending on the truck year model. All good stuff to know when it's time to replace the plug's on my STX.
