bell housing

Im tring to track down a leak, is there suppose to be any oil in the bell housing , i removed the inspection hole there was oil on the bottom plate, not a puddle but some, i thought maybe oil pan leak but i don't know, hope not a engine seal? any thoughts? 2005 f150 5.4, just noticed a significant leak after parked started today or yesterday,

If it's oil, you have a rear main seal leak. If it's transmission fluid, you have a torque converter or tranny front seal leak.

it is engine oil , i was hoping it may be a pan seal but im probally wrong, i think ill try to change the pan seal just incase, im guessing a main seal is in the 1000 range? is this something anyone can do with hanes manual and some time?

Yep, you have to pull the tranny, torque converter, and flexplate.
