03 Lightning help

I am looking at an 03 Lightning with 27k miles. It has a chrome canister on the passengers side of the motor, just above the valve cover. The canister is about the size of a red bull can and has 4 hoses coming out of it. One of the hoses goes to the valve cover. I just took a quick look at it today. I am going back tomorrow to look at it again. Any ideas what this canister is? I have a pic of it but for some reason I cannot attach it. I created a photo album on my profile page and put the pictures there. There is also an aftermarket boost gauge installed. How can I tell if the supercharger pulley has been changed? Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the replies. And thanks jbrew for posting the pics (sorry, I am new at this). I assume the seperator comes a part somehow so you can empty the accumulated oil. How often do you have to empty it?

Depends on the set up, - that one looks real nice, not cheap by no means. You'll have to get a better look at it, I can't tell, - I can see there's some sort of by-pass. It may purge itself. I've seen them with a petc0ck type deal before. But yea , that ones rapped, he has a valve down there or something I imagine. I doubt you have to spin the bowl off with that set up.

You may want to empty it more in cold climate situations. Other than that, I really don't know. I'd check it every oil change. That little by-pass deal on the side there might be an over flow , - for when you forget

Definitely nice to have tho.

That little bypass as jbrew called it, should be a clear tube so you can see how much oil is in the seperator.
I would empty it when it's about half way full.

The more boost you run,,,the faster they fill up!

Oh mann!! I was going to say that, but the damn thing looked like it had a brass tube,- from the pic. So I called it a bypass, cause it sounded cool to me, at the the time.

I thought I was safe from feelin stupid, -guess not...

Dangg!

Yea, thanks for that, - phil
