Wink Air filter + Programmer?

Hello All, Just to confirm, If I am going to add a CAI, I need to get a programmer too as the motor can run LEAN. Is this correct?

Is this true for the 5.4 3v only or is it other generations too?

Thanks.

2007 5.4 F150 HD.

the 04+ need a tuner to run CAI. Previous years do not, although a tuner might help take advantage of them in 97-03 trucks.

The 04-05 and some 06s (5.4L 3V) came from the factory with very lean fuel tables. Any aftermarket intake that modifies the geometry near the stock MAF will affect the MAF's ability to accurately measure the air flow.

While you probably won't have an issue with your 07, it would be prudent to get a custom tune along with your intake.

Or save the $250 for the intake and do the gotts mod and get a tuner with custom tunes.

With an 07, if you stay with a 3" intake tube you will be fine. Anything over that (3 1/2") you WILL have lean conditions. I ran a 3" AF1 CAI about a month before I got my Gryphon with no problems. I have read where the 04's had a real problem with this though.

If you are looking for more power, better response and better shifting, nothing helps like custom tunes. Do the Gotts mod and get a tuner.
