2001 F150 Supercrew, might have a problem.

How do you check for OBD2 error codes? I feel like something is wrong with my truck, going up hill seems slow, sucks when their is a slow car ahead and I can't pass them cause I can't accelerate anymore at that point so can't catch up. Might have been another vehicle but I think I've checked for OBD2 error codes before on the odometer in my truck. Can anyone tell me how to do it?

Go to autozone and have them scan the truck. you HAVE to have an obd2 code reader. Is your check engine light on? Thats usually (but not always) the indication of a stored code.

No lights yet. You sure there is no other way? I'm so sure I did it before on the digital odometer. I just don't want to be going back and forth checking stuff.

I'm positive there is NO way to retrieve obd2 codes with out a scanner. You can buy one for less the $50 or get a tuner like a gryphon or edge that gives you the codes. You probably dont have codes or the CEL would illuminate. There are time when it store them though. Has it came on at all? if not then you dont have any codes. Done your basic maintenance? change the fuel filter lately? air? those things will turn your rig into a dog..

No, don't think I've seen any lights come on showing something was wrong. How does this scanner sound?

Around $26 shipped and this free software works with it.

The odometer doesn't display "P" codes (PCM). I think it only displays "B" codes (body). The only vehicle that I'm aware of where the odometer can display "P" codes is Chrysler.

I'd spend a bit more and get a standalone scanner.

However, sluggishness with no CEL is frequently caused by clogged cats. Get a friend to sit in the truck and rev it up and feel the tailpipe for exhaust pressure, compare it to a vehicle that's running right. Muffler shops can also test for clogged cats with an infrared tester.

I didn't mention it but my truck only has around 82,500 miles and has no problems accelerating on level streets. Air filter looks fine, I've never changed the fuel filter (not sure if previous owner did) but up hill or not I would think if it were a bad fuel filter the problem would always be noticeable wouldn't it? And in case it matters at idle the RPMs are at like 1,700 and are usually around 2,000 going 70 mph.

Dumb question...I've never messed with the Overdrive button, i've always had it on. Is that right? Or should I be turning it off some times?

And the reason I wanted the USB scanner was that the free software seems to give more information that just error codes with the free software available.

Change the fuel filter. Leave the overdrive on unless you are towing.

Lol, yeah just a photoshop. Some day though might get them or something like them. :P

And what are the chances, I make this topic and I start seeing another problem...my odometer sometimes doesn't turn on till after a few minutes of my truck running.

Thanks for the links! Not sure my soldering is good enough for something that small but I might try it sometime soon. I changed the fuel filter earlier today, thought it was good cause the gas coming out of it looked clean but shook it a bit and it turned totally brown as if had mud in it. Guess it was time to change it? Didn't test drive it yet, going to fill up the tank tomorrow and get one of those fuel system cleaners. You guys think that was the problem?

There are other things.. 02 sensors are recommended to be changed at 100k along with the plugs..
The soldering can be done by a friend.. Thats what i did. My hands tremble so no fine soldering for me..

I'm about 200 miles away from 83k right now so still quite a few to go before 100k. So would those sensors still be okay?
