Engine running slightly hot

To start I have a gryphon so I can get accurate numbers for coolant temp. Now the issue, even in peak heat ac blasting and driving like I stole it my coolant temp never exceeded 198f. Now recently it is running 205-220 degrees. Even while driving easily and ac off it gets this high. there are no modifications to the truck since I've observed the 198 consistently. The truck has never gone above 220 and never overheats despite running hot. I have changed the coolant and got the radiator flushed and neither have changed the temp the slightest. It seems to creep up the highest while I am stopped but I have ensured that the fan spins. Also the ac seems to not get as cold or as fast as before the temp increase, i have checked refregerant levels and they are normal. Should I be concerned with the sudden increase? What could cause this?

Sounds like the fan clutch is going south on you....not spinning the fan enough with the increase in temp.

Wash out the outside of the radiator and condenser-may have bugs/junk in between the fins and not getting enough air flow.

Just my $0.02

Yeah.. some maintenance.. Thats the ticket.. Maybe a flush and fluid change. Might change out the stat. Then the bug idea is good and the fan although I think they mostly get stuck in the fan on all the time mode..

Iv also been having the same issue with my 04 f-150 5.4. I have an edge evo in mine where i also have been monitoring the temp gauges closely lately after i overheated about 2 weeks back. Granted its also been 95 degrees lately but i never seemed to have an issue before. I've been noticing is that it'l go about 198 before, where now im ranging anywhere from 206-230 degrees depending on where im driving too. I tried the fluid change and radiator flush with no luck yet. What iv noticed is before if it was hot or running hard, i could hear my fan really kick on. Lately i havent heard it and hasn't been kicking on. Were looking towards the clutch fan. Any one have any ideas as well before i buy a replacement one?

Ridemx. I didn't mean to thread steal this from you, but my computer isn't letting me search any other threads and don't want to start a new thread for the same problem.

Have you replaced the thermostat?

Wow, a rash of these. I have the same thing. It overheated once so I got a double flush, thermostat and new fluid. At that time the garage said I had a split serp belt. It was fine for a while, but now the temp has spiked up high twice and runs around that 205 to 220 range. I too have the gryphon. When I was reading you post, I was laughing as we seem to have the exact issue.

Oddly enough, when the a/c is on, it runs around 194 and real consistant. I am begining to wonder if the extra performance is killing belts thus not turning the water pump well enough. Then with the ac running it has extra tension or less torque and runs the water pump better?

I cleaned the radiator with a hose and compressed air and that for the most part fixed it(runs about 195-205 now) The radiator speared to be perfectly clean but after moving the fan shroud and that astoc cover on top the amount of mud and dirt I got out of there was amazing. Jut an idea for all you other guys with the same problem as me, especially if you have taken the truck offroad.

Also, always run a 192/194 Thermostat with these modulars. There's two other options, like a 187 or 198. They don't like those, I've played around with that a few times.

I installed the Troyer E-Fans (And I have the Gryphon) and my temp is always 188 and 190-191 when the AC is on. Last weekend I had five people in the truck with some cargo going from 4000 to 9000 feet with the AC on and it got in the low 200's and I was worried.

If it runs cool with the AC on then it is clutch engagement thingy. When the truck tells it the AC is on and it has to be on full blast it works. When it is wishy washy and just wants a temp then it sounds like the sensor or the engagement thingy is going bad.

And I know I dont make sense, it has been a long day!
