Quick question
Quick question
Ok, Im a new poster but I've fixed d**mn near every issue I've ever had with my truck by sifting through here. So my question is, and it may sound dumb but I couldn't find it, but I have a 98F150 xlt with a 5.4 with 115k. Does my truck have the plug issue? I got orders from UT to DE, and I want to change my plugs, fuel filter, etc and get her all tuned up before I haul a trailer loaded with all my crap across the country and preferbly with no issues. I'm pretty good with the wrenches but any advice or anything would be greatly appreciated.
Your (our) truck has the issue with plugs working loose and spitting out. The newer 3v 5.4's had issues with them breaking off upon removal. So no worries there. Just follow procedure, a nice clean removal, and proper install (28ft/lbs dry with no antiseize) nickle plated motorcraft plugs (sp-479) gaped to .54
Theyre tough to get to, but don't give up, take your time. Make sure when threading new plugs in that you dont use the ratchet, either a piece of hose over the plug end or just the extension, not to force it going in and proper thread alignment. Snug em all down, then go thru and crack them with the tq wrench at 28ft/lbs. Hopefully you have a decent wrench in the range of 0-50 (most wrenches are most accurate in the middle of their range) Other people take the risk and just hand tight then half turn by hand.. I personally wouldnt. To each his own though. Good luck
