My TERRIBLE experience with Global automotive

I bought a set of coils on march 4th from global automotive. I installed them in our shop on March 20th. I put about 250 miles on it and developed a miss again as seen here....https://www.f150online.com/forums/v8...-5-4-miss.html
I swapped out the plugs and still had the miss so i started eliminating Coils one at a time and cylinder #2 was dead. So I swapped the coil with one of my known good ones that I took out and she runs like a charm. Now the fun part. I contacted Global and was told to send in my Paypal reciept AND a copy of the invoice from a PROFESSIONAL shop that did installation. I explained to them that I did my own install yet they insisted, to honor the warranty, I had to have an invoice. So, I got my boss to make me an invoice for my shop time. sent it in and now they wont honor the warranty. They said its not an acceptable invoice....even though its the invoice ALL of our customers get. GLOBAL AUTOMOTIVES CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS. They don't state that a 3rd party mechanic has to install their coils. You can NOT install your own coils and keep your warranty in tact. Just want everyone to have a heads up. You can get a good look at a T-bone steak by sticking your head up a bulls ***, but id rather take the butchers word for it. Global Automotive has NO warranty on their coils yet they claim to.....I hope they go broke

The way I look at it, their coils are so inexpensive, I can accept getting one or two bad ones. I can even accept buying 2 sets to get 8 good ones. You still save a ton of money. I would not even mess with their warranty.

I agree with Bluejay. They have saved me a canoe full of cash in the past and I haven't had one bad one in the bunch.

Personally, I think it's cheap and petty to complain about them. Global Automotive sells a ton of these coil sets now and have saved so many- that dealership price. Their coils are just as good, -if not better. They are the same in comparison. (Photo's in my gallery).

They went along time without having one bad report. Now I count 4. Still the best record.

Yea, the customer service sucks. Maybe they should jack up the price so they could hire someone for the whiners out there that need pampering.

Just saying, -you don't know how good you got it. We need Global Automotive lol. - Well, okay, I do or did quite a few times...

I am with Blue on this too. I can buy two full sets of their coils for what I would pay for 2 single coils at the dealer here. I am still running my stockers as my truck has pretty low miles but when I need to replace them I will not hesitate to get them from Global or Uneek. To hell with the warranty.

There are going to be bad one's thats just the way it is. Global should not offer a warranty if they aren't going to honor it though. I wouldnt try to get one either not worth the hassle when you figure they only cost less then $10 each. Buy the 10 pack just incase one fails..

I've seen a post on here before from someone that suggested, when ordering coils off of eBay ,to order them for the 10 cylinder. Because there have been some bad ones reported.
I'm still running the original coil packs on my 97, with over 200k, last tank of gas I got 15.7 mpg. (knock on wood) But when I need coils packs I'll order them from eBay verses the dealership.

I agree with the fact that they are cheap and I know new stuff can have problems.....however if you guarantee a product, no matter if its a $3 item or a $3000 item, you should stand behind it and not try to screw people out of their money

Yea, that's what I started doing, but, now, I have coils coming out my ears lol. - Well, I guess I had a collection before I started purchasing their 10 packs. I've installed quite a few Global sets for friends , family or just acquaintance on a few occasions. Anyway, not one came back, not with a coil problem. I have more Motorcraft coils than I do Global coils. Motorcrafts have failed me in the past, not to much, but they have.

Or you could buy them from Uneek and send in the bad one and they send you a good one.
I had one go bad and that is all I had to do. I sent him an email and he said send him the coil.

I believe that's all you have to do w/global as well. Not sure, never had to return anything I've purchased from their yet.

If I did, I would call and ask for Kevin (owner). I talked with him before, -that was a few years ago when he first started selling coils. Good guy, from what I recall.

A few of you might remember, - He started selling Ford coil kits which included a set of Motorcraft spark plugs. It was a great deal; -just one problem. The plugs that came with the kits were wrong lol. I'm not sure what Ford engine they were for, but they weren't for these modulars. That's how I got to know him anyway, - I politely (yea right) informed Kevin of that mistake . It was an easy fix I guess, -I just had to run the plugs up town to Oriely's and they swapped them out for the right ones.

Actually, I still have the brochure, right here -

Yea, he quit selling those kits.

I purchased a set from Global a few years ago. I went bad about 6 months ago but I never returned it. It would cost me more in shipping from Canada to bother to return it. I will just buy another set when the next one goes. I noticed that the failed one had a crack in the top. That might be where water entered the coil after a bath I gave the engine. Please no lectures on the evils of washing the engine. I don't give a snot and I will continue to do it.

Would you give a lugy ? Yea, they did update the housings and know, I don't have that data, - or I do, - out in the garage somewhere. Probably in the file cabinet out there. If I come across it , I will scan it in. The update was for coil series dating back to 97. So my take on it was just the 508's got it, - not the 511's. The 511's must not have had a problem.

The updated coils are a little different. Their black on top (instead of clear) and the coil connector was reinforced. I have a set of each. - Clear tops and Black tops.

Motorcraft and Visteon discontinued paper labels, instead, they printed part # signatures (top of housings). Globals have no sig, but left GAMMA markings on the part.

So they have been updated for almost two years. The problem that may exist is that some suppliers may still have the older versions (clear tops).
Global sells so many, I was able to the updated coils with my last purchase. Which was the winter of 08. The update data was inside their shipping box.

My older version coils are still good. I just updated the coils to the currant version when I upgraded spark plugs to Iridium's.

I figured that's all I'd half to do as well....ship in the bad one and they'd send me a good one. Not so much. IF YOUR COILS ARE NOT INSTALLED BY A CERITFIED MECHANIC, YOUR WARRANTY IS VOID. Global sucks a bag of ****s. Wish I'd have bought from someone who would have atleast honored their warranty.
