how impossible would it be to swap a 99 5.4 with the L engine code into a 98 with the 4.6 W engine code? What all is needed? i have the chance to buy the motor for 150 bucks but dont want to spend the money on it if It cant be done. any input is appreciated

No problem, -you won't even need a re-tune, but it's a very good idea to. Use your 4.6 ignition components (coil packs). Leave the high tech CoilOverPlug (COP) system from the 5four on the shelf.

f150fella08 has posted user JMC's excellent "Note's Bible" link above. Your all set now

so you can run a 5.4 off the 4.6 coil packs? hmm i always thought you would have to run everything over to COP's

You could, but - coil drivers are different with the 4six PCM. Firing orders the same. So - well, it's a hassle programming in COP systems when you don't have to, -basically. There may be more to it than what I'm thinkingat the moment. From what I recall, -most , if not all, run the 4six CoilPacks for the 5four on this swap.
