4.6 vs 5.4 L both v8
Well, their both Gas Guzzlers to NowADay's standards lol. You don't purchase a truck for their economy. Just know, if everything is up to par on maintenance with the two different engines, you'll net the same Mpg's give or take (a little).
To get a 5.4L in your truck when ordering new, it cost a little bit more and as far as residue value, - yes it's worth a little bit more. You can't take away economy from the 5.4L over the 4.6L because it just doesn't exist, not under normal/average operating drive cycles.
With the 5four, it's just there, - there when need it. You don't think twice about when it has to preform. That's the extra you get and sure, it will like the fuel then, -it's a give and take. Make sense?

The 5four is a better motor all around, - hands down. If you new the engines well enough, you would have surely came to that conclusion.
Put 5000 lbs on a trailer behind a 4six and 5four. Now race em. - That's the difference,- half throttle will beat the 4six @ WFO. The purpose of the 5four to begin with. - It's not a taxi cab or a cop car, -it a worker and does it with ease, one that will last along time if you take care of her.

you know, i never put it that way. that is a fact about that haha. yea i have a 5.4 but i have just heard some stuff about the 4.6 thats why im trying to see what the major difference is. but that puts a whole new perspective on it. and yea my buddy said that if i get a chip for a 4.6 it will beat out any 5.4(stocks). But that does make alot of sense the strees and constanly idling. you know they have to be good motors.
yes everything everybody said above does make sense. I have no problem with my 5.4 and im not saying i like the 4.6 better. hey there both ford motors i'll take either one! but i just want to know the difference because if i was to ever change trucks i was thinkin about the 4.6 and i just wanted to know the main differences between the 2 besides size. there has to be something else besides size that makes a difference.
In the end the 5.4 is going to top the 4.6 any day of the week. There is also more potential for unlock more horse power from larger cubic inch period.
The only advantage the 4.6 has is as stated by a previous post is the less mass and shorter stroke can spin faster with less problems.
The 5.4 will however pruduce the most pulling torque....
There is no substitute for cubic inch
Uhmm, no, definitely not. It needs to be fed thru the proper channels first. If it survives, then I give it a final for approval, via-stamp.
Of course you can have an opinion, - I'm just posting facts, -basically what it is, or what it's suppose to be mathematically, in a sense lol.

Yea. im not saying people cant have their own opinions. I have a 5.4 now and yes i know there is no substitute for cubic inches and size and all that. the longer strokes creating more power makes sense with the 5.4. also the 4.6 makes sense to because its always spinning or idling and is put under stress that we see day after day on the streets. I understand that the 5.4 is more powerful. and bigger. but put that aside. everyone has there own opinion. I dont tow much either. I also know there has to be a way to make a 5.4 or a 4.6 different than each other. so far out of this i got 4.6= tough small engine. 5.4=bigger more powerful engine. I just want to know why people prefer one over the other. they are all opinions not worth fighting over for. i have a 5.4 right now and im trying to get a chip for it. i just wanted some opinions on the different motors to see. but i guess the best way for me to do that is to keep my 5.4 and eventually one day get a 4.6 and see which one i like better. as of right now for what i do i say a 4.6 is better for me but i just want peoples opinions on what the difference is and what motors will do what. most of all i wanted to know if the rumors in my original post were true. i appreciate everybody commenting and giving your opinion. it helps out alot. these are some nice people on here. lets not mess it up by fighting over opinions
That's a mighty bold statement pilgrim.
The 5.4 doesn't get the same MPG's as the 4.6. I would go as far to say that the 2 valve 4.6 is more reliable than the 2 valve 5.4 due to the 5.4 having such a long stroke while the 4.6's being nearly square.
As long as you're talking about performance, then yes, the 5.4 is the best all around.

Yeah, they make it. It doesn't come stock in any trucks, bit it exists.
