Radiator Service

Was'nt sure if I should post here or in "other powertrain", so my appologies in advance.

I am getting ready to flush/fill the cooling system on my wife's 2001 Expy 5.4 2wd. The manual says either yellow or green is fine in a 50/50 mix, but yellow was stock. I went to the local auto parts store and they had Prestone yellow on sale. I figured that I would buy the full strength and then dilute it myself with distilled water. Long story short, they had a sign on the prestone bottles that said, if your car required yellow, to run this Prestone yellow at full strenght, not 50/50. I know they sell both, 50/50, and full, but I have always run full and did the mix myself.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Something strange there. I've never heard of anything like that, but then I quit using Prestone quite some time ago.

Do you recommend a different brand? I have always just used Prestone when its on sale. I change the coolant about every few years.

Thanks,

Thanks,
I'm pretty sure it's Zerex that makes the Gold for Ford. You can buy the same thing in the Zerex brand for less than Ford Gold. It has a slightly darker gold dye in it, but I think that Ford makes them do that, it's the same stuff. You can even buy it at Wal-Mart I believe. I have always preferred Zerex over Prestone. If you have any desire to research coolant go to "Bob is the oil guy". He has a lot of different forums there and there is a coolant forum and quite a few knowledgeable people post there.

Have you done that before in the 2001 successfully ? You have to purge those right , it can be a PITA if you don't. Some don't have a problem, but allot have in the past. Enough to where Ford has a TSB on it.
