The nightmare
The nightmare
is over.
Hi all, as you can tell, I am not much of a poster. I mostly read advice here. All I can say is that there is a bunch of people on here that know their stuff. Anyway, back on subject. I have been living with a low grade misfire for sometime. It finally got to the point that I bought some new COPs from Uneek. All was great, for a while. about 2 months afterwards the truck started the misfire again and then within a day it was running like crap. I was outside of town and had to drive it about 30 miles to get back. I took it to a local shop, and they said it was a coil. I had saved my old ones so they just put one of those back on. I was told that a bad sparkplug could cause a coil to go out and he recommended to change them. Luck for me I have read the 2 piece problem and I asked him if he knew about it. He did and said that he had a good track record and charged $210 for labor plus parts. Only $35 to remove broken ones. NONE BROKE
. He said they were some of the cleanest that he has seen. By the way 100100 miles. Since I bought the truck used, about 3 years ago, I have only used Chevron gas. I agree with Bluejay and the others that say top tier only.
After picking it up I got another code p0420 then a little later p0430. I asked him about it and was informed that raw fuel does wonderful things to cats. So after looking around for replacements, I was kinda excited about getting a new exhaust, but prices were more than I wanted to pay right now. I decided to take it the dealer and see what they could do. WOW I got 2 new cats for free including labor. It seems I had a couple of bad injectors also
So now it runs better than the day I got it.
I can sleep without nightmares now.

that is good news, BTW what year is your truck? I have an 05, and I was told by the Dealer that the 05's have a problem with Bad injectors, and I have had the same problem as you, with the low grade misfires, I had 4 injectors fail in one day 1/4 tank of gas to go 10 miles...now my injectors are warranted for 100,000 miles or 10 year through ford...
just keep an eye on your injectors...if you own a 2005.
good luck

A link to a copy of the 05 5.4 3v injector letter is in my sig.
I had an injector fail and hydrolock my engine, snapping a rod. I ended up getting a new short block and one injector free. I paid to have the other 7 replaced.

Clean!... but worn out! What kind of a gap do those things have? I guess it's pretty common for the electrode to wear down pretty bad with that # of miles. That's also tough on you COPs. (As you have already found out)
