you should look into a ScanGaugeII
I've got one in my truck. reads codes, plus so much more. MPG, Trans Temp, IAT, Cylinder head temps, water temp, fuel level, miles to E... are just a few. I picked mine up for $165 about year 1/2 ago, but I'm sure you can find a used one or they might be cheaper now

Go to autozone if you have one near you. If not many other parts stores offer a free code reading service. Get the codes from them and politely decline all the parts they try to sell you to fix the problem. Then come back here with the codes and do a search. Chances are its a pretty common issue and you will find all the info you need.

I'm right in Medford. I think i'm going to grab that scanner for $40 tonight. If it gives me the answer to this code, it'll have paid for itself and then some. Medford Ford charged me $300 to scan and replace a COP last year. Thanks for the offer though, very nice of you.
