Those cannot be the original plugs. I replaced plugs on a 97 4.6. The gap was .122 that was at 120,000 miles.

Yes Gotts, those were the stock plugs. Worst one was .062. My commute is all highway so the miles have been easy on the old girl. I am the original owner.

Jbrew, I lifted the fuel rail on the drivers side. 7 & 8 are the worst. There is just no room to work. It is not a hard job but it sure ain't a fun one. Three of the eight coils had cracks in the potting material so it was definitely time to change them. She runs well now. I need to go for a longer ride to really test it but I think it is fixed.

Did you tow that truck wherever it went? Surely it didn't run with that kind of gap! Gap 'em and put 'em back in, why you might get another 20 or 30 miles out of 'em!

All tools are accounted for. I did have to fish some screws out of various valleys between things.

I got a misfire on cylinder #1, think it's age adn milage. i got plug wires! But they are the original ones and just started acting up a couple weeks ago. There 13years old plus have 110k on them so i think it's about time. It isn't serious enough to throw a code but it's misfires alot, especially when i get on it. So i try not too. Not trying to steal your thread but does anyone kno, should i get motorcraft plug wires too?

Yes. Motorcraft wires are 70 bucks at rockauto.com and $160 at the dealer.

You can also get good wires at NAPA. They use Belden.

"ATAF' huh? You had to be in the aviation side of military! HAHA!

On a serious note I run bosh platinum and have no problems. I just hit 100,000 on mine and want to change the cop's. Does MSD still make the coils and wire for our trucks? I have an 02 scab with 5.4

You are one of the lucky ones. We recommend Motorcraft plugs and Ebay cops.

Since you run the worst possible plugs in your motor and get away with it, - run accel coils. Those are the worst possible as well.

formuladriver did you see this thread yet ?

Yea, NGK and Denso's work fine in the two valves as well. It's just the Bosch and the Autolites that can be problematic. Bosch is the worst because they can fall apart.
